University Communications is seeking a talented and collaborative Graphic Designer to join our team. As a specialist in our office, you will interact with other designers and copywriters to help shape the UConn story. You will collaborate in the strategy, conception, and design of University print and digital marketing projects, website, and branded materials. You should possess excellent visual design skills, basic web technical know-how (no developer skills required), print production experience, a great portfolio, and an eagerness to grow in this role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the design of specific print, web, and digital projects, including print collateral, environmental graphics, wayfinding signage, banners/flags, emails, print and digital advertisements, promotional items, and web.
Consults with project team regarding design needs, target audience, strategic goals, deadlines, budgets, and brand awareness.
Develops logoed and branded signage to promote a consistent overall image of the University both internally and to the general public.
Independently plans layout and design of print and digital projects, exercising originality and creativity in developing proper focus of the project to meet audience needs and strategic goals.
Oversees production of specific print and digital design work, ensuring quality standards are met, electronic uses are tested, and intended visual image is conveyed.
Conducts ongoing best practice research to stay abreast of industry trends in printing processes and design software services.
Prepares formal bid specifications for on and off-campus printers, screens vendors, and attends planning meetings and press checks as needed.
As necessary, negotiates printing specifications and costs with internal clients and external vendors, including paper selection, print types and styles, etc.
Creates and update webpages, using Wordpress and other platforms.
Performs related duties as required.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field, or equivalent experience and training
Three years of on-the-job experience in graphic design or a related field
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Demonstrated ability to interact constructively with production team members, clients, and print vendors
Demonstrated ability to make content and design updates to websites using working knowledge of content management systems, HTML, and CSS
Evidence of creative ability and technical skills as demonstrated by portfolio
Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills
Experience designing in Wordpress
Experience in strategic marketing in the higher education industry
Experience designing wayfinding signage
Experience using email marketing software
Experience developing environmental graphics and working with related vendors
Ability to collaborate with clients, meet deadlines and work both independently and in collaboration with others
